A worthwhile mission
The balance between supply and demand in the electrical grid is a delicate one. Decentral applications that can provide stability to the grid are therefore more popular than ever.
It goes without saying that those who assume responsibility for certain functions in the grid will also benefit financially. Take on the challenge and discover your opportunities.
Active grid management
Electricity generation and load can be managed using regulation systems — generally in order to keep various system parameters (voltage, power, phase adjustment, reactive power and frequency) within certain limits.
Using predictive and forecasting methods, the grid can be prepared for expected situations. One of the options is to delay the connection of loads when an increase in electricity generation is expected to occur soon. Another is to induce a load early before an expected uncontrollable load occurs. These can be advantageous particularly for residential and industrial utilization.
Frequency control in the power grid
Alternating current power grids have a certain frequency. The operators of a transmission grid must always precisely maintain this frequency. The tolerance range is within only a few tenths of a hertz. This is only possible by controlling the frequency precisely to the second, requiring a reaction to grid fluctuations within a few seconds, but generally much faster. This frequency control is the first type of balancing energy to be activated and can be provided by our system.
Good to know: Our multi-hour energy storage system is not only capable of providing energy for primary control power but can also play a role in secondary control power, and is compensated accordingly by the operator of a transmission grid. Would you like to take advantage of this? We can create a design based on our energy storage system for you to play an active role in this market — providing positive and negative control reserve energy.
Reactive power
What is reactive power? The grid often needs reactive power to help counterbalance unforeseen events. Reactive power is used for local voltage collapses but also for plants in extensive high-voltage networks to help reduce the Ferranti effect. We can provide this power using our alternating current system.
Using reactive power to ensure stability reduces wasted energy and the associated costs. This is generally achieved through the use of capacitors. But our system saves unnecessary expenses in other applications as well. The AC CellCube system is capable of supplying both inductive as well as capacitive stability. We are happy to provide further details on this topic.
